Caterpillar Container Forklifts - The Largest and Strongest Kind of Forklift Manufactured
Container Forklift
A container forklift is specifically utilized to unload and load huge, heavy freight containers. They are used to shuttle freight off and on ships, truck beds and trains. Container forklifts are the largest and most durable kinds of forklifts manufactured. They need to be very maneuverable on terrain that is uneven and have enough power and torque to lift bulky containers safely. They usually have large pneumatic tires and heavy-duty diesel engines.
A container forklift, like all types of forklift, utilizes forks in order to lift the containers. Forks must be positioned to ensure the load is secure during transport. Some container forklift models are only meant to lift the containers several meters off the ground. Other container handlers use a different technique for lifting containers to greater heights. A container handler utilizes an apparatus affixed to the front of the vehicle to clamp down on either end of the container like jaws. The machinery is counterbalanced with weights to maintain stability.
Lifting and transferring containers is the main purpose of a container forklift. Standard forklifts do not have sufficient reach for working in ports. The forks are rated based on the maximum weight they can handle. The forklift's capabilities should never be exceeded and should be posted prominently in the cockpit.
How to Properly Use Caterpillar Pneumatic Tire Forklifts
Use a Pneumatic Forklift
Pneumatic forklifts are common in warehouse and shipping operations. Also called pallet trucks or pump trucks, they are used to transport supplies and products around on wooden pallets using metal forks mounted on a wheeled counterweight. The counterweight has a pump which raises the forks off the ground. A pallet truck is designed to be operated by one individual.
To prevent loosing control while lifting heavy loads, pallet trucks must always be operated with care. Machine must be inspected prior to operating. Clear the wheels area of any obstacle. Check that the handle could turn smoothly. The pallet must be carefully stacked to guarantee that nothing would fall off during transportation.
So as to lower the forks and release air in the pump, squeeze the lever located on the inside of the metal loop on the end of the pallet truck's handle. The forks can then be pushed into the slots of the pallet. The forks must be at the center so as to guarantee equal distribution of the pallet's weight across them. Lift the forks from the ground by pumping the handle of the pneumatic lift until the pallet has fully cleared the ground. Do not lift the pallet too high or the forklift can unbalance.
Pull on the handle and then drag it behind you if you want to move the pallet. It is really not safe to push the pallet in front of you as the thrust could cause it to lose control. Slowly take turns and don't try to stop abruptly. Gradually stop, squeeze the lever, and the forks will lower to the ground. Lastly, remove the forks from the pallet by pulling them out. Return the pallet truck to its permanent location.
